Biography of Amy Diamond
Swedish pop singer Amy Diamond was born on April 15, 1992 in Norrkoping, Sweden as Amy Linnea Deasismont. At
such a tender age, she is already a celebrity having several successful albums to her credit. The second child
of an English father (Lee) and a Swedish mother (Chrisbeth), Amy spent her childhood in both countries where
she studied dance, acted in theater and television, took part in singing and performance competitions. Amy is
fluent in both English and Swedish. She was an ardent figure skater from the age of six and won a number of
gold medals. Amy now lives in Jonkoping, Sweden with her two younger sisters, Lisa and Holly, and an older
sister, Danielle.
Still in her teens, Amy Diamond does not like to mix her private life with her singing career. As she is not keen on letting the public know her real surname, she decided to take on her stage name, Amy Diamond, at the time of the release of her first single "What's in It for Me." Why Diamond? She explained that she preferred Diamond over everything else as it happened to be her birthstone.
Although already a famous pop singer, Amy Diamond regularly attends school and hardly misses a day. To her, education is important as she can fall back on it if her musical career does not follow the course she wants it to, or if she ever loses interest in singing. She still manages time to enjoy holidays and says the entertainment industry hasn’t treated her harshly. Her father manages her business affairs and there is full parental support to pursue her chosen career. Hairdressing is Amy’s dream hobby and she loves to dance and practice football in her spare time. She has two dogs in her family - Penny and Pixie.
Career history
At the age of only 12, Amy Diamond created a sensation in Scandinavia when she came out with her debut single, the pop-reggae "What's in It for Me" in February 2005. It remained in a Top Ten chart position in Sweden for 19 weeks. The power and richness of her self-assured voice completely belied her age and cherubic looks. The song was a hit in Denmark, Norway, and Finland and became the most-played song in Poland in 2005. Interestingly, some Swedish TV stations were against showing the music video, because they thought the adult theme of the song did not match her young age. Amy, however, never considered it an adult relationship; she took it as relationships between friends. She soon made an appearance on Swedish TV4 and used her artist name for the first time.
Given the success of her debut single, the commissioning of a full album was only a matter of time. It happened soon
with the release of the album, “This Is Me Now” in May 2005. The album sold over 150,000 copies, much more than the
number required for gold record certification in Sweden at the time. The success of “This Is Me Now” made her even
more famous, and Amy was made to grace a number of television shows and participate in a concert tour in Sweden after
its release. Amy may have a huge number of fans among school kids, but the album was not exactly what could be called
children's music.
Amy Diamond’s second album, “Still Me Still Now” was released in May 2006. Two weeks prior to the general album distribution, the first single "Don't Cry Your Heart Out" was released which turned out to be a hit on the radio in Sweden. Like her previous album, “Still Me Still Now” was also light-pop stuff. Although some critics didn’t like the choice of the songs, Amy’s voice and presentation came in for praise. In the middle of the year, she participated in the Diggiloo tour and also held concerts beyond the tour.
In November, 2007 Amy released her third album “Music in Motion” containing tracks done by well-known people like Max Martin and Alexander Kronlund, who have worked with stars like Britney Spears. The singles in the album included "Is It Love?" and "Stay My Baby."
The teenage sensation is working on a fourth album at present, the title and release date of which is yet to be decided. But plans are afoot to also release it in the United States. Amy is supposed to undertake a tour of the US to promote her new album and perhaps her previous ones as well.
Amy’s most successful numbers till date include "What's in it for Me", "Welcome to the City", "Champion", "Shooting Star", "Don't Cry Your Heart Out", "It Can Only Get Better", "Is it Love?", "You are Beautiful", "Just a Minute" and the most recent "Thank You".
